Students appreciate having their work presented through iSpeech and the ability it allows for them to then take the text before them and write it out themselves in whatever form is chosen, or to add to their thoughts and ideas to delve deeper into their meaning. Often, when the difficulty of sounding words out and the pressure of having their writing presented in its truest form, is alleviated, student work becomes more thought provoking, decisive and creative. In my own classroom, this application has allowed students to orally dictate their work, which alleviates various forms of writers’ block (be it a story, journal entry, legend, or answer to a question) and to have it appear before them in the form of text. ISpeech Dictation allows students to speak into a microphone located on the device and have their thoughts, ideas and interests displayed in writing before them. My search began with an application that is easily accessible for iPhones and iPads (found at ) called iSpeech Dictation.


The resources I chose to focus on have the ability to eliminate these barriers to allow students to showcase their abilities rather than their difficulties. I have noticed many times, in my own practice, that the idea of writing and the motions of writing, become a barrier to students that inhibit their abilities.
